Julianne stood outside the bus depot, the pinkish glow from the neon sign washing over her. This was the single most thrilling moment in all of her eighteen years. Sad, but true.

Nothing ever happens in this one-stoplight town. She decided a long time ago that she was going to go somewhere where things do happen. The last four years spent in that steamy diner serving burgers and meticulously saving her tips were worth it for this moment.

The bus is only the first step. The second step is to board a plane. To where she doesn’t yet know.
